Feile 2009

The All Ireland Feile competition was hosted in Kildare this year and Ellistown is proud to have had teams competing in the boys and girls competition. Over the coming weeks I will post a number of reports detailing the huge task undertaken by the club in a national venture which turned out to be a local success.

The full fixture list can be seen by clicking the links below. The size of the competition is demonstrated by the sheer volume of fixtures.

Incredibly, the current team Boys Feile team has repeated the achievement of last year’s champions by defeating Maynooth B in the County Division 6 Feile final. The team is divided equally between Under 12 , Under 13 and Under 14 players though this year had the disadvantage of not being able to draw upon the girls team as it has in the past. This particular rule has a particular impact on small clubs and Ellistown as a consequence has a small and young panel.

Ellistown has made great strides in girls football over the last few years and even though the club fielded its first girls team less than 6 years ago, it competes at all levels up to Under 16 and has competed in a number of league finals in recent years. Ellistown won the Under 13 county league Divison 3 in 2007.

The current Feile team is a very young one, with the average age being under 12. Indeed there is only one under 14 player on the panel. The club is immensely proud of our girls teams and they add a new dimension to the club’s activities. Ellistown looks forward to continued success in this area. The girls host St. Ciaran’s of Rocommon in the All Ireland Feile. .

Both Ellistown teams are looking forward to Feile 2009. The teams and indeed the club intend to extend the warmest of welcomes to both Lancashire and St.Ciaran’s Roscommon. The panels are young and hope to do the club proud and enjoy the excitement of this wonderful competition. We hope to make new friends and perform to the very best of our abilities.

Your support and assistance on the Feile weekend and on the lead up to the weekend will be much appreciated. We will need help from tea and sandwich making to putting out the flags on the pitch. Anything you can do to help will add to the experience.
