Senior Ladies Challenge Match

27th February 2017

Ellistown: 2 - 8

Castledermot: 1 - 3

A momentous day in Ellistown this morning as we fielded our 1st ever Senior Ladies Team under Ellistown LGFA. It was great to see our opposition Castledermot back in action after a break of over a year at Senior Level. The conditions were not conducive to good football but both teams put in a very spirited performance considering. Ellistown got off to a great start with some great points being scored. Castledermot never gave up and got their just rewards after taking a well worked goal late in the 1st half but Ellistown's Kate Scully hit the back of the net soon after leaving the scoreline at halftime 1.6 to 1 goal in Ellistown's favour. The second half was a very tight game with alot of turnovers of possession. Both teams only adding 3 scores apiece in the 30 mins - 1.2 by Ellistown, 3 points by Castledermot leaving the final score Ellistown 2.8 v Castledermot 1.3. A good game of football from both teams considering the very heavy underfoot conditions. Massive team performance by our girls and best of luck to Castledermot in their remaining games in the league. Huge thank you to Ken Johnson club chairman for his very kind words of encouragement prior to kick off and to Josie Bracken for refreshments afterwards. To our photographers, Marina, and Tracey, thank you. To Seamus and Trevor for their tireless work getting the girls ready for this match, thank you. It really is a momentous day for Ellistown LGFA. Lastly, to the ladies playing this am - Gemma Donnelly (captain), Laura Cullen, Caoimhe Whiteley, Aideen Grey, Clodagh OLoughlin, Kate OLoughlin, Kate Scully, Kellyanne Scully, Louise Scully, Melissa Scully, Muireann Scully, Emma Bracken, Ailish OLoughlin and Emily Whelan - we are all so proud of each and everyone of you on a fantastic team performance.
