Minor Football League Div 4A

27th February 2017

St. Kevin's: 3 - 5

Ellistown: 2 - 8

Thanks to Brendan O'Loughlin for this report - Ellistown minors had their third league game away to St Kevin's on Sunday morning. This was the only game to be played in this division on Sunday. The first half was dominated by the weather with the wind and rain making scoring difficult, particularly for Ellistown. Two first half goals by Craig Heffernan and Blackie kept Ellistown in touch at half time. In the second half the home team rallied and with 10 mins remaining pulled 4 points clear. As bad as the conditions were in the first half the rain in the second half was truly torrential with visibility being difficult at one point. As the game entered the last 5 mins Devon Guing went on a run from the 40 and buried the ball in the top corner of the net to level the match. A frantic few minutes followed with the teams exchanging points and in the end it finished all square. This was a real team effort and very satisfying for the management because the lads showed true grit to get a result. Notable performances came from the aforementioned goal scorers plus Kevin and Pat Martin, Tomas Scully and James Sutton in defense.
